How much does a panel upgrade cost?

Panel upgrade costs depend on several factors, including the amperage needed, your home's existing wiring, and local permit requirements. Generally:

  • 100 amp panel upgrade: $1,800 - $2,500
  • 200 amp panel upgrade: $2,500 - $4,000
  • 400 amp panel upgrade: $4,000 - $6,000+

These prices include permits, inspections, and a whole-home surge protector. We provide detailed written estimates before any work begins.

How much does EV charger installation cost?

EV charger installation typically costs between $800 and $2,200, depending on:

  • Distance from your electrical panel to the charging location
  • Whether your panel has available capacity or needs an upgrade
  • The type of charger (Tesla Wall Connector, ChargePoint, etc.)
  • Indoor vs. outdoor installation

The charger itself is not included in these prices (you can purchase your own or we can source one for you). Many utility companies offer rebates for EV charger installation – we can help you navigate these incentives.

Do I need a permit for electrical work?

Most electrical work in California requires a permit. This includes:

  • Panel upgrades or replacements
  • New circuit installations
  • EV charger installation
  • Adding outlets or switches
  • Any work involving new wiring

We handle all permit applications and schedule required inspections as part of our service. Permit fees are included in our quotes unless otherwise specified. Permits protect you by ensuring work meets safety codes.

How long does a typical project take?

Project timelines vary based on scope:

  • Outlet/switch repair: 1-2 hours
  • Ceiling fan installation: 1-2 hours
  • EV charger installation: 2-4 hours
  • Panel upgrade: 4-8 hours
  • Recessed lighting (6-8 lights): 4-6 hours
  • Whole house rewire: 3-5 days

We'll give you a time estimate during your consultation and keep you updated throughout the project.

What warranty do you offer?

We stand behind our work with comprehensive warranties:

  • Labor/Workmanship: 2-year warranty on all work performed
  • Materials: Covered by manufacturer warranties (typically 1-10 years depending on product)
  • Panels: Most panels we install come with 25-year manufacturer warranties

If something isn't right, call us and we'll make it right – no questions asked.

How do I know if my electrical panel needs upgrading?

Signs that your panel may need an upgrade include:

  • Breakers that trip frequently
  • Flickering or dimming lights
  • Your panel is a Federal Pacific, Zinsco, or fuse box
  • You're adding major appliances, EV chargers, or HVAC systems
  • Your home was built before 1980 and has never been updated
  • You see scorch marks or smell burning near the panel
  • You're planning a home renovation or addition

We offer free electrical safety inspections to assess your panel and provide recommendations.
